Five Star Restaurant Menu – Adding Options, Simplifying Our Codebase

We rolled out a major update to the Five Star Restaurant Menu (formerly Food and Drink Menu) plugin this week which has a tonne of new features that we’re really excited about.

One of the major changes is that the free and premium plugins have had their codebase combined into a single plugin, with a new licensing system that means that you won’t need to install an extra plugin after purchasing the premium version. With the combined codebase, we’re also able to offer users a free 7 day trial of the premium version before they purchase.

On top of the technical improvements, we’ve added in a bunch of new options in both the free and paid versions. For the free version, we’ve added in an option to include a sidebar with your menu categories so that users can search your menu more easily, options to help with currency symbols around prices and an optional ability to add in an image for each category.

In the premium version, we’ve made even bigger changes. We’ve added in a whole set of filtering options, so that visitors can search and sort through menu items much more easily. There’s also an option to display extra menu item information in a lightbox when a visitor clicks on an item, as well as options to display related menu items when viewing item details.

One new premium feature we’re really excited about is the ability to create custom fields for menu items. Custom Fields give restaurants the flexibility to add in any extra information about their menu items that their customers might want. We’ve created a set of default nutritional information fields that can be added, but this feature can be used for absolutely anything, so we can’t wait to see the creative uses our plugin users come up with.

Finally, we’ve added in a couple of completely different premium styles, a list-style menu and an image-heavy style, that can be used for the menu, along with a complete set of detailed styling options. Combined, these options will give restaurant owners the ability to style their menus in absolutely any way they choose, so that the style of your menu can match the style of your restaurant.

Users who have the pro version of the plugin installed should immediately have access to these new features after updating to version 2.0.0 of the Five Star Restaurant Menu plugin. Users of the free version can still upgrade to the premium version for only $25 for a limited time by visiting our plugin page.
